At Cencosud, we operate under the framework of the Food Rescue Program, which is part of our Regional Strategy to prevent food loss and waste.
In June 2020, we began the systematic and free delivery of food to the Núcleo Humanitario Foundation as part of our Regional Strategy to prevent food loss and waste. The Program aims to integrate and systematize all non-commercializable food for human consumption to entities or organizations at the national level.
The program allows us to strengthen processes to systematically deliver food to Chilean families in need, making socially responsible management of products that for various reasons are not marketed.
It is based on a management model of three pillars:
- Responsible Management, for the development and growth of the program.
- Partnerships and collaborative work to achieve objectives.
- Every decision is an opportunity for Social Impact in line with our purpose of "Feeding the Life of Chilean Families", as we understand that we must be a real contribution to the communities around us.

In 2021, we celebrated 10 years of this program and we already have national coverage. This program is a project to revalue products removed from sale to generate a positive social and environmental impact. It is implemented with our teams in Jumbo, Vea and Disco, in partnership with civil society actors, with the aim of improving the nutritional situation of thousands of children in our country through the donation of food and essential products. An initiative that we have undertaken since 2011, together with the Argentine Network of Food Banks and the Salvation Army, to collaborate with those who need it most.
Summarizing the impact indicators until 2021, we can mention the following:
- More than 3.3 million kilos of food and products donated since 2011.
- More than 6.6 million plates of food delivered since 2011.
- 17 provinces benefited.
- 266 donor stores and distribution centers.
- 21 Food Banks and Salvation Army.

Our partnership with the Mesa Brasil program, from Sesc, aims to deliver tons of food to thousands of non-governmental organizations, community kitchens, shelters, orphanages, nursing homes, among others. In addition, our networks promote and/or participate periodically in social events and actions by distributing food baskets, cleaning supplies, and other products in the communities where we are present.

This initiative launched by Wong and Metro is committed to generating a positive impact on Peruvian society. Therefore, they establish partnerships that allow them to continue being a change agent. In this sense, since 2016, they have been working hand in hand with the Food Bank of Peru, and since 2020, with Caritas Lima, in order to prevent food waste and channel it to vulnerable populations.
