Supermarkets Chile Commits to the Sale of Cage-Free Eggs
Going above and beyond and staying in tune with today's needs is what Jumbo, Santa Isabel, and SPID constantly strive for. That's why they have taken on this commitment through collaboration with their suppliers.
Cencosud has established an agreement with its suppliers to create a roadmap for the gradual increase in the availability of fresh cage-free eggs to reach 100% of their own-brand fresh egg offerings across various sales platforms in the coming years.
"At Cencosud, we understand the importance of such commitments for our customers and communities. In line with the Animal Welfare Declaration and our purpose of Nourishing Chilean Families' Lives, we have embraced the challenge of progressively expanding the sale of increasingly natural products to continuously improve our customers' quality of life through a unique, sustainable experience with unparalleled quality and service standards," said Franco Tagini, Commercial Manager of Dairy Products and Eggs at Cencosud.
This commitment translates into the expansion of display areas for fresh cage-free eggs in all their stores during the 2023-2024 period. By 2025, they aim to offer 100% of these products under their own brands. By 2028, their goal is to provide customers with 100% cage-free fresh eggs at Jumbo and SPID, while ensuring that 50% of fresh eggs at Santa Isabel come from cage-free hens.
These advancements add to the many efforts Jumbo, Santa Isabel, and SPID have been making to promote responsible supply chains and consumption. They have been the first supermarket chain in the country to sell Organic Eggs and have received the Blue Seal from Sernapesca (National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service) for promoting responsible consumption, sustainable extraction, and combating illegal fishing in their seafood departments, among other initiatives.
