Santiago, August 13, 2020.- Cencosud and Cornershop (a company controlled by Uber Technologies Inc.) have signed a long-term collaborative agreement today for the operations of supermarkets and home improvement stores in Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil.
With this agreement, Cornershop customers will have access to Cencosud's supermarkets (Jumbo, Wong, Metro, Santa Isabel, Prezunic, GBarbosa, among others) and home improvement stores (Easy) without any service fees.
In addition, Uber and Uber Eats users will be able to access Cencosud's products and stores through their applications.
An important aspect of the agreement is the technological integration, which means that Cencosud and Cornershop will work together to develop technology that offers the best experience for Cencosud's customers and seeks developments to improve business efficiency.
Likewise, Cornershop and Cencosud will invest in the development of dedicated e-commerce picking stores (dark stores), both in Chile and the other countries covered by the agreement. The aim is to continue delivering an unparalleled service both in-store and online.
Oskar Hjertonsson, founder and CEO of Cornershop, highlights that 'when we launched Cornershop in Santiago 5 years ago, Jumbo was a dream partner for that market. We know that Jumbo is one of the favorite stores for Cornershop users, thanks to its wide selection of high-quality products. We are very excited about this announcement and what it means: being able to deliver even more value to our customers, not only in Chile but throughout the region.'
For Eduardo Donnelly, General Manager of Uber Eats for Latin America, 'Latin America is a key market for Uber, where we have a significant presence. We are very excited about the opportunity for Cornershop to start working with Cencosud, and thanks to our technological integration, users of Uber's applications will be able to access their stores and products. This agreement opens up new possibilities for joint development in the future.'
For Matias Videla, CEO of Cencosud, 'This alliance with Uber and Cornershop is part of Cencosud's strategy to focus on the e-commerce and supermarket channels. It offers us the opportunity to grow with a wider range of offerings to our customers, improve service, and benefit from current and future technological developments.'
