Santiago, January 3, 2023.- Cencosud made significant progress in its sustainable performance during 2022. This is after improving its ranking in both the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the MSCI ESG rating.
In the DJSI - an index that assesses the sustainability of thousands of companies listed on the world's major stock exchanges - Cencosud scored 68 points, increasing three from 2021, becoming a member of the DJSI Chile and DJSI MILA. With this, the Company ranks within the top 6% in the Food & Retail category worldwide.
Meanwhile, in the MSCI ESG - a rating that measures a company's management of financially relevant ESG risks and opportunities - Cencosud was classified in the BBB category.
"The results obtained are due to a proactive management of sustainability in the Company, which is based on four pillars: Corporate Governance, People, Product, and Planet. At Cencosud, sustainability and ESG criteria are at the center of our business strategy, and we move forward with determination on these issues throughout the value chain, leading us to achieve positive results that are recognized by all our stakeholders, including customers and investors, among others."
Said María Soledad Fernández, Manager of Investor Relations and Corporate Sustainability at Cencosud, after the announcement of the positive performance for Cencosud.
The results of these indicators reflect a series of initiatives that are part of the company's Sustainability strategy. In this sense, the regional Food Rescue program of Cencosud stands out, which since 2021 has managed to recover more than 3,200 tons of food in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Peru -countries where the Company is present in Latin America- benefiting thousands of social organizations; the launch of the new regional Diversity and Inclusion strategy, through which the Company seeks to generate strong and people-centered organizational cultures; and the recent inauguration of the #HubCenco offices in Santiago, new and modern spaces with high standards that seek to reflect the flexibility and diversity where the same values and culture of Cencosud are shared.
